The Problem
The Black Belt 100 Lenses Project is a joint endeavor of the Black Belt Community Foundation, the University of Alabama Center for Community-Based Partnerships, and public and private schools in the Black Belt. The project draws upon and extends Photovoice to combine photography and film with grassroots social action. Black Belt 100 Lenses participants use photography, film interviews and oral narratives to portray the daily experience of life in Alabama's Black Belt. Selected high school students from both public and private schools document their lives and define what their culture means to them. Given a camera and film, participants capture the images in their life that they see as significant.
Plan of Action

Enabling students to explore and document the culture of their region through photography, while creating dialogue both internally and externally

Determining issues and areas of concern to aid the Black Belt Community Foundation in its mission to improve the quality of life for Black Belt residents
Providing youth with an opportunity to develop their personal and social identities enabling them to become positive agents within their communities
