Black Mountain Community Garden Tools and Equiptment

The Black Mountain Community Garden is located in Black Mountain, North Carolina. It was founded by an 89 year old man named Dr. Wilson. After undergoing some medical issues his doctor told him that he needed to get outside and do something. Dr.Wilson then decided to start a community garden. The garden has many purposes. It is an educational garden. Nearby Elementary students go to the garden to learn how to grow their own vegetables, they learn about the importance of eating fresh produce, and they also learn how to take care of a garden. Local college students go to the garden on a weekly basis to help out with the general upkeep. The Black mountain Community Garden relies heavily on volunteers to help keep it running. There are a couple different types of garden beds. Community members who many not have enough space in their own yards are able to come and grown whatever they would like at the community garden, and there are several beds that are set aside to be donated to local soup kitchens and food banks. Every year the community garden puts on a contest to see who can grow the most produce. The winner is awarded a check that must donated to the charity of their choice. There are many people who use the tools in the garden everyday, and there are hundreds of seeds that need to be planted in the garden every year. The Black Mountain Community Garden would greatly benefit from receiving some money so that they can buy new tools, such as shovels, rakes, garden bed covers, wheelbarrows, pitchforks, and spades. They also need money for seeds and the materials to build a new shed, because the present one is falling apart. One last thing that they could use money for is a welcome sign, so that community members would be more aware that they have this amazing community garden in their city.
