The Problem
Most kids under the age of 16 cannot volunteer at local animal shelters without a parent being present. This presents a problem for kids who want to volunteer to help local animal shelters raise funds and awareness about pet adoption. Therefore, I've created Bones for Homes with the idea of having kids all over the US participate by baking dog biscuits and raising money for their local shelters.
Plan of Action
I have created a website that includes information about Bones for Homes. After my first event this past weekend (Paws in Motion) I raised $102 for the Humane Society of Manatee County.
My next steps are to expand the concept to include more students to participate by using the methods that I've developed. For example, I have researched/tested dog biscuit recipes, various sizes of dog bone cookie cutters, developed a product logo and packaging instructions. I'd like to put together a BFH program where students would sign up and get a "startup kit" that would include all the instructions, recipes (as well as BFH cookie cutters, labels, packaging bags, and BFH stickers) to get started in their own neighborhoods.
