The Problem

Dr. Morgan helps to run the Boys and Girls Club and came to our chess team asking for somebody to teach chess to the kids. Many of these kids come from low-income families and see intelligence as something they don't have. By teaching them chess, they are learning a fun game while at the same time learning concepts such as cause and effect, planning, and evaluating that they can apply in school and in their lives.

Plan of Action

Dr. Morgan asked for our chess team to have some people come and teach. Five of us started helping out, and our team donated enough boards for the kids to play on. Each Thursday we are there for a little over an hour teaching the kids how to play, how to think, and letting them enjoy the great game. Kids are always getting better and learning how to critically think over the board. This in turn spills into their normal lives and makes them smarter kids and better individuals.
