The Problem

How many of you know of a country called Zambia? Well it's a third world country that needs some help. There's a school there run by Gil and Ronda Krause and it is for orphaned and abandoned children. This school provides an education to children who have never had a school experience. This school is in need of many things such as school supplies which we have decided to donate. here are some good links talking more about the school http://www.youtube.com/user/somacha#p/a/u/1/-vJrEKNofaM http://somacha.blogspot.com/2009/03/mics-computer-lab-opens-today-in-new.html http://30daysonjetblue.com/?page_id=20 check those websites out...

Plan of Action

My 8th grade class and I decided to make bracelets to sell to earn money to buy and ship school supplies to this wonderful school. Buying the school supplies isn't the hard part it's the shipping part that is quite a struggle. It cost an insane amount of money to ship items all the way to Zambia, but we are determined to do it! I am also very pleased to let everyone know that we got a good start to helping these children because we are the proud winners of a do something grant! I am SO SO EXCITED and I can't wait to put that money to good use!!! :) I shall keep everyone posted... till then... :)

Project Updates

Failure

fail·ure (flyr)
n. The condition or fact of not achieving the desired end or ends

I do not approve of the word failure. It is disgusting. I prefer the word defeat. Sadly to say, this project was not a failure, but rather an idea defeated. It is not an easy thing to do and I commend all of those on this website who accomplish their goals. I must say the words I dread, I could not complete this project. I would like to thank all of those who offered their support including DoSomething.org who awarded me with a $500 grant. I was unable to use the money, and I refuse to keep it, for it belongs to charity.

I currently attend a Catholic High School as a Freshmen and Christmas is quickly approaching. My school is participating in the Adopt A Family Program. We have these small 30 minute classes called Mentor and each Mentor class has adopted a Family. My Mentor group has adopted a Family of 7 and we are each required to bring in money. We need to raise a lot because we want to purchase everything on their Christmas wish list, and still have money to give them a gift card with a substantial amount of money to buy a nice Christmas meal with.

I will be donating about $100 of the $500 dollar grant to this cause. I will update you on how it goes :)

What about the other $400 you may ask? I shall be keeping it on hand until the next school fundraiser. I will keep you posted on status of what the next $400 goes too.

It makes me sad that I could not help the kids of Zambia. But just know, they are in my heart, and my prays. Maybe, just someday I will be able to dosomething about it.

Until the next $400 is ready to be used...
I leave you with this,

Sometimes, Failure is good.
It helps us realize,
We are human.
And once we can all realize
that we are all
HUMAN
Then,
Peace Can Come.

With love, Alina
