I am in the process of establishing a summer tutoring program for underpriveleged kids living in an apartment complex. The program will be called Bright Futures Summer Tutoring Program and I will manage it by myself. The program is for children from 7 to 11 years old who need extra help and attention that they did not get during the school year. There will most likely be from about 8 to 10 kids participating in the program. We will meet two days per week for a ninety minute period. The children all live in the Country Club Arms Apartment Complex in South Carolina (my dad manages this complex). I already have the location set up; it will be in the apartment complex's office building, which is basically a big room with a lot of space. I will put together outings once every few weeks to nearby mountains or parks to get the children in a better environment. My dad will drive me to the office for the tutoring sessions and will be the supervisor/chauffeur for the outings. However I am not asking him to pay for the materials needed because this is my project and I want to handle the financial aspects on my own; however with no job I will not be able to do that and still put together a good program for the kids. The following are things for which I need money: supplies (pencils, paper, childrens books, workbooks, word cards, etc.), gas for the outings, program t-shirts, chairs or desks, and small snacks for the kids. This is a program that I plan on holding for all four years of my high school career, so any grant money or donations that I do not use this summer will be used for the following summers.
