The Problem

The problem our group is trying to solve is the crisis in our culture that girls are being taught that all that matters are superficial things, and that they have no need to be "special", no need to stand out. In our group we are helping girls become strong in their youth. We teach a lesson each week to the girls about various character attributes. (Lessons include "Truthfulness", "Avoiding Gossip," "Words," and "Friends.") We encourage them in the pursuit of a good character, and attempt to inspire them to become leaders to other young women. A Bright Light is a girl who knows how to respond "just right" to people and circumstances, demonstrating high standards in her actions and attitudes, and who touches other people greatly with her servants spirit.

Plan of Action

Me and the other three leaders participated in a similar group when we were younger, and we thought it would be great if we could start a similar program. So far we have been using all personal funds, which has put quite a strain on us financially. We meet in a building in our small town. We sent out information to families of girls that we thought might be interested, and we had our first season of meeting last school year. As far as impact: We've gotten many very, very positive responses from girls and their parents, about how much this has helped them grow as a person.
