The Problem

We were trying to help the environment and poverty. Because these two problems are intrinsically linked because farmer's who aren't in poverty are more likely to grow crops that will help the land and will change the plant's he's growing to help the soil. Also, if the environment is suffering, then that also increases poverty. If there is problems going on such as a decline in naturally resources which feed the people due to the environment, this will lead more people into poverty. Therefore we were trying to get the community involved to try to fight poverty and climate change.

Plan of Action

At my school we have a leadership class, and those not on student council decided to get involved with the United Nations Youth Foundation which promotes different ideas to help with poverty and climate change. They have a list of criteria to do to be able to help with these issues. We started off with learning about the devestating effects of poverty and the environment. We then wrote cases, a PRO and CON, the PRO saying we should focus on poverty before the environment, and CON saying to focus on the environment before poverty. We went and did a live debate and invited the community and elected officials to come and particpate. We then started planning our service project. We made and started a recycling program at our school. We also made blankets for Mothers Without Borders which later donated them to people living in Africa. We also collected and donated clothes to give to an organization who gave it to a third world country. We also made 4 Public service announcements to be able to tell of the devestating effects of climate change on the world and her people.
