Bringing Kappa Sigma Fraternity to Methodist University

After beginning the Fall 2007 Semester at my college, Methodist University I realized that the school had no national social fraternity. along with one of my residents we recruited 10 guys on our floor and posed the idea of having a fraternity at the school. We had to keep this idea very private because the school has hopes in the past and the idea failed. My self and my co-partner petitioned for club status at the University. We were asked to compile a constitution that was in agreement with the university policies. Our attempt was successful, we gained club status, and begin our attempt to gain national attention. After careful consideration and talk with our members, we decided to pool for The Kappa Sigma Fraternity. To aide our attempt I knew a Resident Coordinator that is an alumni, I talked with him about being our Supporter he agreed. In two weeks time we grew from 10 to 25 members and Kappa Sigma sent a representative to speak with us and insure our interest. He informed us of a 45 pledge fee and the need to recruit more members. I wrote a request to the Dean of Students and SGA President asking for a grant to aide in the process of our members becoming pledges of Kappa Sigma. The University agreed and awarded the club monies to accomplish our goal. Our pledge ceremony night the club sponsored 25 brothers and an additional 32 brother came with money to join. I am proud to say that with the hard work of my co-founder and determined young men, Our club has been named a Colony of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and by May of 2008 our colony will be awarded our Charter. This is an accomplishment not only for me and the members but for Methodist University establishing a Greek Life.
