Bringing Life back to the Rez!
the problem:
I am in a continuous endeavor to help the people from my Reservation overcome the constant life-threatening issues they face as a tribe. A fraction of these issues include drug abuse(major meth usage), alcoholism, poverty, suicide, teen pregnancy, child abuse, obesity, malnutrition, homelessness, unemployment, and diabetes.
I am doing everything within my limited powers to help them get back on their feet as the proud and independent people they once were. I focus more so on helping the youth as I believe that is where the biggest change WILL come from. I dont have a multi-million dollar corperation behind me to give me a thousand dollars here and there. I haven't helped a company raise enough money for a thousand computers. However, I have made huge impacts on children across my reservation for the past 4 years of my life. I have set up programs for the youth, teaching them about the different dangers of drugs and alcohol. In an anti-drug campaign I made trips to the elementary and junior high schools across my school district, visiting each class throughout the year. These are just a few things that I organize to help my people overcome their struggles.
I dont know if some people would look at what I am doing and call it a single project. I think a lot of people have to say that it is a bunch of different projects. However, I see it in a perspective coming from having lived in a life of poverty and confusion. I have one Goal. To achieve that Goal I am doing the things that are required to better my chances at getting myself in a better situation to achieve my Goal. For example, if you are building a house you would get all the materials needed to complete the home. You might go over and buy some boards and paint at the shop. You might buy furiture and decorations for the inside, but all in all, it was just one big project. Thats the way I see what im doing. I doing different things here and there and it might take me 5 to 15 years to complete it. But all in all, its just one big project.
