The Problem

In Gratiot County 10.3% of the residents had an income below the poverty level in 2007 and 3.9% had an income over 50% below the poverty level. Most non-profits in the area that aid the growing number of people in poverty are run by one and a half full time employees. For some time there has been a gap between the community and the local college. In order to decrease poverty the college and local community will have to work together to create change.

Plan of Action

I have been working on this project for two years now. Soon I will be moving onto graduate school. So, my next steps are to create a website that will help build the program and provide resources to community members and students, create a sustainability plan, and develop sub-project binders for students or community members that will take over particular projects.
