The Problem
Eve Carson. Nick Martin. Kendra Mason. Bryan Kilgore. At one point in time, the faces of these students, athletes, and young community leaders graced our television sets...but their accolades weren't the topic of discussion. Gun violence in any form is an issue that consumes our youth at an alarming rate. Whether it is a gang related killing or a mass school shooting, more needs to be done to provide intervention tactics to our youth and educate individuals on the reality of gun related killings.
Plan of Action
One of the goals of BULLETPROOF is to elevate while we educate. Thus, we have developed the idea for a scholarship to pursue higher education of any kind. For some, that higher education may be a a private high school, for others, it may be college. Whatever the aspiration, BULLETPROOF wants to help make it happen. With this scholarship, students ages 8-11, 12-14, and 15-18, will be able to express their sentiments, personal connections, and concerns about gun violence through art. We have extended the submission piece to include any medium of art as not to limit those who lack painting skills, or stifle those who love to draw.
One scholarship will be awarded per age group in the amount of 300.00. The scholarship will be advertised via radio, to not only spread the word, but invite the community to come out and see what our kids and teens can do. Voting will be done by a panel of college students and community youth leaders. The winner will be announced on the radio and the checked mailed to them in their name.
