The Problem
I am 8 years old and I want to help save endangered species around the world by selling copies of the book I wrote called "Butterflies Shouldn't Wear Shoes." All the proceeds from the sale of my book get donated to my favorite wildlife charity. I think it's sad that there are so many animals becoming extinct.
Plan of Action
First, I learned that butterflies taste with their feet in my second grade science class and I thought it was a cool fact. Then I thought about what would happen if butterflies wore shoes—they couldn’t taste anything! So I decided to write and illustrate a book about what would happen if butterflies wore shoes. My mom helped me with some of the drawings and helped me put the book together. I gave the book to my teachers as a gift and they were very impressed. In fact, other people wanted one, too! So I decided to get some books printed and try to sell them. Instead of keeping the money for myself, I wanted to donate it to an organization that helps animals. I picked a charity that helps endangered animals. I was on TV and in the newspaper which was good because it made other people aware of the problem of animals becoming endangered. So far, by selling my books online and at local book signings, I have been able to sell over 600 books and raise almost $3,000 for my favorite wildlife charity. I have also received letters and book orders from people all over the country in support of my project.
