The Problem

Myself and my two co-founders aim to increase access to quality education in Prek Bongkong, a small village outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We want to not only provide tools for learning but also inspire a sense of value in education. The children there are only provided public school for a half day, and must pay for supplemental learning. Not only can some families not afford this, but they do not see the value that lies in educating their youth. We at Cambodian Threads would like to enable the villagers of Prek Bongkong to see the value, through experience, of education. We therefore must provide the tools, and the benefits beyond the education, for a change in norms.

Plan of Action

We at Cambodian Threads plan to continue the sale of scarves and other silk, hand made products into the future. As our project grows, so too will our ability to give back to the community. None of us have received any monetary reward for our countless hours spent. Instead, so far we have provided school supplies and scholarships. We hope to be able to outfit the schools with computers and other tools for learning so the children of Prek Bongkong believe in themselves, and believe in the value of education, to benefit and develop their community's future.
