Canadian Youth Assembly

the problem:

We are providing youth an effective means to get involved in their community and to express their views to decision makers. We're helping the leaders of tomorrow lead today.

vital stats:

people impacted:

600

people involved:

600

why it's important:

This is important to me because I grew up never having something to get involved in where I could develop my leadership skills and make a difference in Canada.

I was always shopping for something to get involved in where I could help the youth of Canada make themselves known so our concerns can be addressed. I never found anything, so we made something!

the plan of action:

We've incorporated the CYA as a federal non-profit organization.

We're going to be holding a conference in late 2009 to showcase our youth and provide a way for them to meet/mingle/discuss.

We will be holding national elections in 2010 (pilot) and working with those youth to get them involved in their communities and to represent the youth who've elected them.

We've already started to network with other youth organizations, and have and will continue to work with politicians and decision makers throughout Canada.

how you can get involved:

Just get involved! We have an endless need for volunteers (see our website).

Part of what we do is remove barriers and shatter stereotypes, so just do your best and never give up! Together we're showing the world what YOUth can do!

This sounds like a really great initiative!! It seems like you guys strive to do a lot of the same things we aim for here at Do Something-- to get kids active and participating in their communities! If you haven't already, you should consider applying for a Do Something grant to help further your efforts. Check out the grants here:

Keep up the good work, and good luck!

Hey, thanks a lot! Yeah, we're doing a lot, we've revamped our focus a couple of times.

I've been looking into the grant and we're going to be applying for the smaller one and checking back for the other.

It's awesome to have sites like this available. I'll definitely be linking here from our site. More people need to be learning about these kind of projects!

Thanks for the opportunity and the advice!
