Cardboard Village

the problem:

Cardboard Village is an educational program teaching local youth different strategies to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters. Through games, team activities and hands-on experiments participants discover methods to protect their homes and minimize the amount of damage. Participants split into to teams and compete to win money to repair damages and make improvements to their home. In addition to the competitions between teams, there are also community tasks that give everyone to compete for a community prize e.g. Snow plows/ice trucks, advanced warning systems, shelters, fire department etc. At the end of the program, the teams work together to build their home out of cardboard boxes.
