The Problem

After spending a year doing disaster relief and reconstruction to areas of El Salvador where the government and NGOs were not working due to political corruption, we decided to form an NGO to tackle root causes of vulnerability to disaster, including lack of community organization, lack of disaster preparedness skills for children, trauma therapy to recover from disaster, and organic agriculture projects to jump start family nutrition and economies. CEIBA aims to reduce social vulnerability to disasters, working with a small budget and lots of international and salvadoran volunteers to empower communities to rebuild a disaster resilient destiny.

Plan of Action

After a year of social reconstruction that included agriculture, trama therapy, and community organizing, we are transitions to more disaster prevention/development. We are now focusing on organizating youth to prevent impeding violence from gangs, disaster prevention with children ages 6-12, and marketing organic agriculture grown last year to be sold in local Salvadoran Universities.
