The Problem
Homelessness in Lawrence, Kansas is a huge problem. The homeless shelter is over capacity and has to turn people away. Children are living at the shelter and being picked up by a school bus to go to school in the mornings. The homeless community needs our help and support so we have created Challah for Humanity to help them.
Plan of Action
We host challah baking workshops in which students and community members come together to make challah (a traditionally Jewish braided bread). The challah is then sold at various locations in Lawrence and the profits are donated to the Lawrence Community Shelter and Just Food, two organizations that help the homeless community in Lawrence. At last month's workshop, the kids at the Lawrence Community Shelter helped us make challah and we donated the challah to them when it was ready.
