The Problem

Our carpentry classes at Northern Garrett High School are trying to help the economically disadvantaged in our area acquire affordable housing: a challenge for this rural area.

Plan of Action

We are building a house for the Garrett County Community Action program. Most homes are built by contractors. Our carpentry teacher was able to secure a contract to build a house by students. The impace has instilled service learning by giving back to the community without profit motivation. Commuinity Action is getting a house built at a much lower cost
