10why it's important:
Music is an integral part of society. When budgets are cut, music is often the first thing to go. We want to help in whatever way possible.
the plan of action:
We are asking local business owners to place donation boxes in their store to collect change. The money will be donated to the local high school's music program and VH1's Save the Music Foundation.

This is amazing! We are definitely going to feature your club's efforts in the Save Our Music campaign.
How's it going so far? Can't wait to see updates. Would you be interested in being interviewed by a music magazine?
Actually, we're going to put up the first of the boxes this weekend. Hopefully we can get a bunch of boxes in businesses before the Holiday Season (with the "giving spirit" that goes around and all).
And sure, an interview sounds like fun.
Hey. Me and my friend are doing something like this! :)
Music is a important aspect in our lives.
Do you have any more ideas and/or tips you could share with us?
If you're putting boxes out, make sure they have a top - the best ones are round plastic containers that have a top you can cut a slot out of. Also see if the business will let you keep a few fliers with your contact information by the box - or one of those fliers with the little tabs you can rip off at the bottom - so that people who are interested in helping more can contact you.
The best places are family owned restaurants and music/art/etc stores. It's hard to get corporations to let you put something in their stores because of the national/international laws and whatnot.
Finally, collect the money at least once a week. And don't expect to get a whole lot (unless you leave the boxes our for a really long time) - while this does raise money, it actually works better as a way to raise awareness. If you can follow it with another project, then that's even better.
If you do anything that's public, offer to mention the businesses who let you keep your boxes in their store. Store owners love free advertisement. ;) Good luck!
