Chicana/o Youth Leadership Camp

The camp is held at San Diego State University in an effort to expose the students to a college environment. For six days and five nights, the students hear from a variety of speakers addressing issues varying from how to get to college to addressing of issues within the community. Also, we hold various activities which give students the chance to share their own perspectives, a chance they may not usually have at home or at school. As Zyanza Rios, a former camper from 2009, explains “I was involved with subjects I don’t touch upon my everyday life… this [camp] was the only place where I could truly express my thoughts on racism, segregation, stereotypes, culture, the importance of education, and women’s value in society. ”
