The Problem
Miracle Players Foundation exists to address the emotional and medical needs of pediatric cancer patients by bringing theatre programs to hospitalized children and raising funds for childhood cancer research at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Each day more than 45 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States alone. While childhood cancer survival rates have risen drastically in the past several decades, there is much work to be done until we can achieve a cure. But a child diagnosed with cancer faces even more than a fight for their life. They are faced with years of treatments and weeks to months long hospital stays. They are often denied, for their own safety, the presence of their peers and siblings. They must endure not only painful procedures but also incredible boredom. Miracle Players Foundation seeks to fund the search for a cure, but also to actively combat the emotional and social strain that results from a cancer diagnosis through its in-hospital programs. We offer in-hospital theatre camps and performances through the Miracle Players Theatre Camp program as well as the opportunity for patients and their families to be professionally photographed through our Hospital Headshots program. Since at this juncture we are unable to travel for hospital visits, this year we are also initiating a new program called Stars-in-a-Box that will provide trunks containing a karaoke machine, family friendly karaoke discs, props, and costumes to oncology department playrooms in hospitals across the country.
Plan of Action
Miracle Players Foundations conducts several fundraising campaigns throughout the year in addition to our annual major fundraising event, Peace, Hope, & Butterflies, that will take place this year on June 2. One hundred percent of funds raised from Peace, Hope, & Butterflies as well as from online Butterfly Sponsorship benefit childhood cancer research at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. General donations to Miracle Players Foundation also primarily used to fund childhood cancer research at Children's with as little as possible being used to help cover the expenses of our in-hospital programs.
