CHS Exit Sign Retrofit

the problem:

Exit signs are emergency lighting that are required in every public building. Clinton High School is a public building and thus must have exit signs, but did you know that one exit sign can consume more than 10 watts! With the amount of exit signs in any given building, thousands of dollars can be saved on exit signs alone. The average bulb costs around $2.00 and uses about 5 watts, each exit sign holds two bulbs. Our plan is to retrofit every exit sign with energy saving LED Technology. The change is as simple as changing a bulb. Each LED Retrofit kit contains two LED bulbs that consume 1 watt of electricity, that's only 2 watts per sign, a whole 8 watts saved per sign! Each kit (containing two LED bulbs) costs about $15.00, but lasts more than 10 years. This project is sponsored by the EcoAction club and is/will not be funded by Clinton High School or Anderson Co. Schools. Donations are needed (monetary only, please).

why it's important:

CHS EcoAction is all about saving the environment. Retrofitting all of our school's exit signs with energy saving bulbs could mean not only more money saved for our school, but also less energy consumption and impact on the environment.

the plan of action:

We plan to seek support from local businesses and suppliers to get the bulbs donated.
