The Problem
While there are many circuses that are amazing without having any non-human animals work for them, the majority of circuses STILL use animals such as elephants and tigers in their acts. We all know that these animals have to be trained to preform such unnatural and straineous acts but many don't know just HOW they are trained. This is the sad part, elephants, who are extremely sentient beings, are often bullhooked, cattle proded, whipped with chains, verbally abused, and ripped from their families almost at birth during training. When not in session or when an elephant grows old, they are neglected and left chained up in tiny cages or given away to disgusting roadside zoos and left to die. Circuses subliminally teach our children that it's ok to see animals like that and that's NOT ok!
Plan of Action
The protest is in front of the Staples Center on Wednesday July 20 starting from 6:00PM to 8:00PM (but you don't have to stay the whole time). There will be signs available probably courtesy of PETA and LCA (Last Chance for Animals) but there will be a lot of people so feel free to make your own signs with slogans like "There's no excuse for animal abuse" or "cruelty is no entertainment." Hope to see you there!!
