The Problem
The problem I was trying to solve was water pollution. So many people go to lakes and enjoy the beaches. However, they do not respect those beaches. Often found are wrappers, bottles, and other garbage that is absolutely disgusting. It kills the fish, it pollutes the water, and frankly, it is just unpleasant to look at. There are not many lakes left in the world. Swimming in a still, fresh lake is a PRIVILEGE and many people are forgetting it. While saying "Gosh it got dirty here," they STILL clean their cars out by throwing all the garbage out right onto the beach. Lakes are one of nature's most beautiful, peaceful, and fragile gifts. People need to realize this before those wonderful lakes turn into dirty puddles full of upside-down floating fish.
Plan of Action
After seeing the lake, I knew something had to be done. My two best friends and I talked to my step-mother and we decided to try to clean up the beach. We bough heavy duty HUGE garbage bags and made our way to the lake. We collected over 40 bags of garbage, and believe it or not, that beach began to look like its old self again. We also placed bins all over the place so that irresponsible people who threw out their trash would at least throw it in the bins. I still visit the lake once in awhile and I am thrilled to see the bins at use. Of course, some people ignore the bins and my friends and I had to occasionally collect more bags of trash. But hey, nothing gets done over night. The place of so many memories WILL NOT die because of trash. I won't let it happen.
