My Girl Scout troop is having a coat drive (used coats in good condition). We will collect coats from home, family, friends, and we will have a collection box at our elementary school. The coats will be donated to Carrollton's Metrocrest Social Services Center (http://www.metrocrestsocialservices.org/). A local dry cleaner has donated their services - They will clean all donated coats for no charge. The Metrocrest Social Services Center will hand out the coats at their December Christmas Store. The store is set up for low income families. Parents who qualify can select gifts for their children at the store at no cost. Each child receives a coat. Our Girl Scout troop recently visited the Metrocrest Social Service Center. They said they allways run out of coats. They also said about 40% of children in Carrollton are on the assisted lunch program (discount lunch program for low income families). Some of these children attend my school. I would love a $500 grant to help with our coat drive. My troop could use the money to shop at Wal-mart for "NEW" coats to be added to our "USED" coat collection. We are using an organization called "One Warm Coat" to help us with our coat drive. (http://onewarmcoat.org/organize.html) They provided to us a free banner sign and big stickers for our school donation box.
