The Problem
In this world today, when we get thirsty, we reach for a glass of iced water. Unfortunately, in third world countries, conquering thirst is not as easy as for us Americans. Myself, I believe that this is unjust, and that the stratifyed social structure of this world has left the less fortunate countries without water that is fresh, crisp, and clean. People living near the Po River in Italy, the Ganges River in India, the Kwale in Kenya, and Lake Maricabo in Venezuela, are just a few of the countries that have water sources being contaminated by pollutants. Pesticides, human waste, and possibly even dead human bodies, are some of the gruesome pollutants dumped into these lakes and rivers, making it hazardous to drink the water. If you all join me in my mission: raising money to send thousands of gallons of water overseas, than we can all make the world a better place to live in for the less fortunate in the world.
Why It's Important
My organization: Code Blue, is able to adress the problem of unsafe drinking water, by delivering pure spring water from the United States, to third world countries in need of water that is sanitary.
The Plan Of Action
My goals for this project have many different aspects to them. A lack of sanitary water is a problem that countless third-world countries face, and I hope that by educating the public in many ways, I will be able to reach out with the Providence community, to provide clean water to less fortunate countries. Eventually, I would like to develop an organization within the entire state of Rhode Island, that local High School students can participate in, to continue raising money to send thousands of gallons of clean water to countries in need of clean water. It would operate as a club, and will motivate students to think outside the box, and help the struggling world around them. In order to raise money, we will have to do a lot of fundraising, however it will definetly be a lot of fun, as well as a great help to the less fortunate. In addition, I am planning on creating a website that can better educate the public on this less thought-of issue. More importantly, it is the best way for me to educate others outside of Rhode Island, and make more people aware about the need for clean water in this world today.
How Can Others Get Involved?
Students can help by joining a branch of Code Blue at their high school. If they are too young, I believe it would be great to join older siblings in helping other countries access safe drinking water. The more supporters there are, the faster we can reach our goal and send water overseas.
