The Problem
The core issue is community building and poverty. In this age of cell phones, TV's, and Computers, my generation doesn't know how to reach out and talk to out neighbors like our parents did. This is why I believe that poverty leads to a poor community connection unless the opportunity is taken advantage of to unite and make things easier here and there for each other. A connection, a common bond, is something I would like to create in my community.
Plan of Action
I want to get my hands on a milking cow for the community.
There are many health benefits of drinking live raw foods, foods that are not pasteurized, milk being one of them.
Not everyone has enough land to have their own cow, and besides that, a cow is a lot of responsibility, everyday, no joke. So the idea is to distribute the actual milking to the owners so that they end up milking the cow once a month plus a monthly fee to pay for the service of fresh milk being delivered to their door step every morning.
On average, you can get 9 to 15 gallons a day on a good milking cow that's totally grass fed.
And the household can pay different sums, according to want and need. Give the people options you know, a half gallon every other day for Ted, a gallon every day for Mrs. Surly and the kids. Charge Mark more for not being able to come milk. Keep it people orientated. Now, it is important for the community to buy actual shares in the cow, because selling raw milk is against the pasteurization laws.
The goal is to give people cheap milk that's actually nourishing, as well as provide a unifying link (the cow) for the community. I'd like to work it out to be like $10 a month per household, depending on how may people get stoked on the idea.
Some communities may need more cows, and certainly not everyone has time to milk a cow even once a month, so this idea may even result with someone (me?) having a job, not such an easy things these days with this economy.
So, there it is, just an idea I've thinking about involving this cow, being passed from one house to the next, till it come back full circle, providing abundance the whole way through.
