The Problem

In my community there are several pantry's that are in need of some help in gathering non-perishable foods and I intend to help make an impact in that problem area.

Why It's Important

This project is important to me because it allows me to help those who are less fortunate in my community and organize others to help the needy people in their community. I feel that during these harsh economic times that people need the most help than ever before and that people around them should be more willing to help. I am trying to do my part in bringing that help to those that need it.

The Plan Of Action

My project is in the process of expanding and I plan on running branching out to the rest of my town and community and to other towns on Long Island; maybe even bring the idea to my school, St. Anthony's in Huntington. I have currently expanded to Elwood, Northport, Huntington, Westbury and Smithtown.

How Can Others Get Involved?

I am now looking to expand my project all over Long Island. I encourage you to join my project and help do your part to help those in need of food. If you are interested in my project don't hesitate to contact me at my email address : [contact information removed by administrator]

What a fantastic idea! You should definitely look into joining Do Something's Feed the Need campaign! http://www.dosomething.org/feedtheneed

You should definitely check out Feed the Need! There's all sorts of resources, including printable flyers that you can use to pass out or post in your community.

Good luck!

Thank you i will give that a look

Hello all I have just finished my first collection on 11/9/08 and I just wanted to give thanks to everyone who helped us especially my little sister Kayla who gave up an hour of her day to help gather the food. Although we didn't get everyone that i offered fliers to, to participate there will be more fliers going around next month and a brand new opportunity to help out. However I am glad to say that this collection has fed at least 15 people that might not have been able to eat today! I have dropped off the food at the local food pantry at the Presbyterian church that has teemed up with my church St. Phillip Neri

Thanks for your participation,

Kyle Arestivo

once you have cans where do we send them to you. Our school is doing this can food drive through the months of november to December. Our number is 617-365-8393 or you can just call me at 617-541-5484 and ask for Henry santana I hope you call back.

hey hunter,

What school do you go to and where would the food be coming from, Im going to need a little more information before i can answer the question on if you should send the food directly to me.

My original plan was to be making collections my self and then bringing them to the local food drive in my town. Also this will only be my second collection coming up in the Month of December and I am still working out the problems.

Let me know if I can help in any way I will be checking these comments daily.

Alight our next collection is coming up in just about a week from now. It will be held on Sunday December 14th. I have made a few changes in the set up since my last collection and hope to see a better turn out in the number of people that participate.

Can't wait to see what happens

Today December 14, 2008 my group and I have just finished our second collection and I am proud to say that it was a complete success. Although not everyone participated, the people that did well exceeded my expectations. At the end of my collection I was left with a truck load of food that I will be donating to the Northport Food Pantry during the week. I just want to give a great thanks to all of you and say that you should be proud of what you have done. Without you some of these people might not have been able to eat today or tomorrow.

I would also like to give a special thanks to my sisters Sydney and Kayla Arestivo who helped me collect the food this morning, I couldn't have done it without their help.

Thanks Again,
Kyle Arestivo

This project looks awesome! If you want to continue this project or do something new to decrease hunger, you could apply for a weekly $500 Disaster Grant. Hunger is considered an ongoing disaster, so projects that decrease hunger fit in perfectly!

Yesterday, February 15, 2009 was our third collection and I am very happy to report that it was a success, thanks to all of the generosity in this community. I realize that this week is a very popular week for vacation but its great that I was still able to collect so much food and help so many people in our town. What we all need to remember however is that many of us might take a vacation from our busy lives but hunger around the world never takes a break from it's busy life.

Thanks again for all of your kindness and I hope to see you again next month.

Today March 22, 2009 was the fourth collection of the Community Food Drive. I am happy to say that people around my town of Northport are continuing to be generous in opening their food pantries in order to help others in need of food. I have approximately 80 packages of food in the back of my truck and will be making the drop off to the Ecumenical - Lay Council Food Pantry a little later in the week.

Thank you all once again for your support and I will be seeing you again next month

Sincerely,
Kyle Arestivo

This is a great idea!

thank you very much

Today is the 19th of April and I have just completed the fifth monthly Community food Drive. This month I decided to give my usual route of people a break and to try a new route. We did not get as big of a turn out as we usually do but i understand that these people are new to my food drive and are still getting used to it. However those of you that did participate i am deeply thankful, with your contribution about 6 families will now be having a meal today.

See you all next month,
Kyle Arestivo

Today 5/31/09 my sister Kayla Arestivo and I, Kyle Arestivo have just completed another collection. I handed out 200 fliers with my friend Jack Griffen on friday and the hard work payed off. We got a total of 400 cans if food!!! It was amazing and the people down at the food pantry were very very appreciative. Thanks again for your participation.

Hello all, 6/8/09
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the notoriety that I have been given in the past couple of days and for all the support that everyone has shown towards my project. I encourage you to take some initiative and to start up a food drive in your community and if you have any questions to feel free to email me. I also want to thank all of my student participants who participate in my monthly collections as well.

Thanks Again,
Kyle Arestivo

Today 6/21/09 was the June Community Food Drive Collection. This month unfortunately i have injured my hip and was unable to perform the needed requirements for the collection. So my two sisters filled in for me( Kayla Arestivo and Sydney Arestivo) they did a fa-nominal job and collected 75 cans worth of food. I want to thank all of the people that donated to my collection and i hope to see you in the following months

Sincerely,
Kyle Arestivo

Hello All Today is Friday September 11th, 2009. I just want everyone to stop for a moment in there day and acknowledge all of the people who died today, eight years ago. I know that I came very close to losing my father to the attacks and I feel tremendous sorrow for those who did lose someone of great importance in their lives.

I also wanted to apologize for not having too many collections over the summer months. Things got so crazy with sports and school preparation that I just couldn't find the time to organize a collection. However during the coming months its my goal to get back on track with having monthly collections and to helping the people of Northport with your generosity.

I thank you all for your patience and understanding,

Kyle Arestivo

Special Thanksgiving Day Collection!!

Hello everyone, as the holiday season rolls around we prepare our celebrations with family and friends and most of all we prepare for the great meals that we will be sharing with all of our loved ones. Unfortunately for many people in our community these luxuries are not accessible to them. They are not able to provide their families with large gatherings with tons of food to go around; in fact many of them will be happy just to get a little meal to get them through the night.

If we all do a little extra shopping in preparation for our holiday feasts we can provide many of the less fortunate people in our community with a little holiday meal of their own. Please just leave what you can spare outside of your front door on the morning of Sunday November 22 at 9AM and share a little bit of the holiday spirit with the needy in your community.

Thank you for your generosity,

Kyle Arestivo
