The Problem
As a group, we were trying to provide some organic vegetables to an entire assisted living home along with a community garden so that the residents may get outside for some fresh air and exercise.
Plan of Action
First we decided what plants we wanted to use. Since we planted in the fall we decided on fall-type plants like pumpkins, squash, basil, etc. Then we planted the seeds in individual dirt pellets and let them grow for about a month. In the mean time, we built four crate-like gardens from wood and filled them with different types of soil. When the time was right we planted all of our plants in our crates. We decided that the garden needed some color, so we painted the crates in groups for fun.
Once finished, the residents of Gentilly Gardens came to talk to us. They thanked us for everything we did and told us how amazing it was for us to take time out of our Saturdays to make them a garden. From what I have heard and seen, multiple residents go out in the garden daily to check on it.
