The community that I have grown up in has been a nice and clean community. But it does have its downfalls, such as the river canal downtown. The school’s normally hold events called “River Sweep” twice a year but the problem is that they don’t get enough volunteer’s to take part in it. So what I had in mind was a type of reward program that would benefit the environment, the people, and gain money for the organization itself. It works like this… find a cause, create the event, gather the volunteers, perform the task, give out the payment, and repay the people.
So to break that down it would work like this…
-Find a cause-
Find a problem in the community that volunteer work can improve
-Create the Event-
Set up the date and time of the volunteer work and get the announcement to the public
-Gather the Volunteers-
Collect the names of the people who are willing to help out with the event and answer any questions they may have
-Perform the Task-
On the se date execute the event with the volunteers
-Give out the Payment-
This is where it gets sort of tricky. For the “payment” it could be more like a “ticket” or voucher to the repayment to the volunteers (See next Step)
-Repay the People-
The people in charge of the entire event would organize a celebration to repay the volunteers. This could be a number of things, a concert, a picnic, or anything else for a large group of people. But the celebration would have to be made up of workers who are also volunteering their time without pay. And so the “tickets” the volunteers get after their work is their way into the event.
And the way this would benefit the environment, people, and gain money for the community would be as follows…
The volunteer events could be to clean up a park or in my town’s case a canal. Maybe a town-wide recycling program could be set up or for a charity collection of old toys or clothes.
Not only would the people gain the self-respect and sense of pride that comes with volunteering they also get to attend set event for their hard work.
At the celebration event food and drinks could be sold to raise money for this organization that would be set up. And with the extra money being raised then the organization can grow and possibly move on to bigger volunteer events.
To apply this action plan to a situation, the situation could be a volunteer project for the canal in my town. A function much like our “River Sweep” could be set up where people volunteer and are given gloves and trash bags and are told to walk down the canal picking up any garbage that they may find, mostly left by ungrateful fisherman and people dumping large amounts of waste, even a car was found in the water! So for the people who came they would sign in and out, and when thy sign out they would be given the “ticket” saying they have done the work and are allowed to go to the celebration. Now if the celebration was a concert of a live band(s) then a local building (Because children would probably be involved the location could not be a bar) maybe a school gymnasium even. And local “garage bands” could be he performers and this provides free entertainment but also the unknown bands to get a chance to perform in public but they would receive no pay. Food and drinks would be sold and maybe local retailers could have their own stand where they can sell their own items, but they would need to rent a spot to display their items for a small fee (which the money they earn would be theirs to keep). And so everyone is happy and the organization now has hopefully balanced out as far as money goes.
And so this concludes my plan for a community improvement program. I have wanted to start a system like this for a long time but funds are a problem for a fourteen year old so it has remained just a dream of mine. Now I have found out about this opportunity to earn $500 to start up the organization and I just thought it would be really cool to win and get the opportunity to start the program. Thank you for reading my entry.
