Companions for Children

the problem:

Companions for Children is a community-based mentoring program that provides a one-to-one relationship between a caring, responsible adult and a child. All participants are invited to attend monthly social and recreational activities.

Since 1972, Companions for Children has provided hundreds of children and adults with friendships. These friendships have helped many children through the most challenging and crucial times of their lives. A scientific study has shown that children with a mentor are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, are less violent, do better in school, and get along better with family members than children who do not have mentor.
