The Problem

Companions in Mission is a week long program that is seeking to help neighbors in the Greater Kalamazoo Area. Women between the ages of 18-50 volunteer a week of service at different volunteer sites. We are mainly seeking to eradicate poverty by volunteering at Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, 2 Soup Kitchens, and a resource center for teenage moms. These volunteer sites allow us to serve many people from all different walks of life. We are never helping the same people everyday which makes our outreach even greater.

Plan of Action

In order to make Companions in Mission go off without a hitch, a lot of planning was involved. Our leadership team created a master schedule which included contacting all of the volunteer sites, getting directions, lining up volunteers, and getting the volunteers to the site every day. We needed to create advertisements announcing our application process and seeking donations for our backpack project. Companions in Mission has an impact on people of all different walks of life and of all ages. By serving at a multitude of sites, we reach out to many people. These people that we serve then reach out to other people that they see throughout the day and the impact keeps reaching. It is impossible to put a specific number on the amount of people that this program has reached out to.
