The Problem
Although 90% of schools in America have access to the internet, 40% of teachers claim they have no opportunity to allow their students usage. That means half of all schools have either none or not enough computers. Studies show that students with access to technology score better on tests and are more likely to go to college. Technology can improve students’ performance by 11%. Half of America’s students are disadvantaged.
I and two of my peers want to donate computers for children to use at a local Salvation Army Learning Zone and teach students how to use a computer and programs on it, such as Microsoft Word. Our goal is to better students’ education by supplying them with technology to help them learn.
Plan of Action
My group will work together to make a video for our school's morning announcements, write an article for our local newspaper, and create fliers to put around our county in order to explain our cause. We will ask our community for money and computer parts. We will work with our school's technology club, Perrytech, in order to build computers. Our group, and any volunteers, will deliver the computers to the Salvation Army's Learning Zone in April and teach the students how to use a computer.
