The Problem
Many town in southwestern Pennsylvania are former steel-towns that no longer have industry. As such, poverty levels are high, jobs are scarce, and reliable transportation is a problem for many. We intend to make bicycles more readily available to the public.
Plan of Action
We intend to launch a bicycle co-op in the city of Connellsville, Pennsylvania. We will rebuild bicycles from old parts that we find or purchase cheaply. These bikes will be sold for cheaper than new bikes, ensuring the public can more easily afford them. The co-op will offer free, or cheap, classes on how to keep your bike in good working order. Finally, we plan to have a program in which people can volunteer their time at the shop in exchange for a bicycle, while learning valuable skills at the same time. Currently, we are repairing a few old bicycles, which we hope will be the first bikes sold, but are in need of tools, parts, and perhaps rental space.
