The Problem

The city of Shatlyk, Turkmenistan is based near the Karakum desert. Many community activities in this city take place in courtyards, but the courtyards now, are not much more than sand and a few grasses. The Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit, a worldwide environmental agency, has voiced its concern over the desertification of Turkmenistan and its desperate need for plants, expecially trees. We will solve these two issues by sending over 500 trees for the Shatlyk community to plant in their city to further its beautification and emergence into a healthy environment.

Plan of Action

First, the Teachers Abroad Program is going to sell tickets to sport events in the community of Lincoln, Nebraska and spread awareness of our program. Teachers Abroad Program has also held a East High School bake sale. This money will go toward paying the shipping costs of over 500 trees. We will then apply for the DoSomething grant program to recieve money to buy the trees, shrubs, and necessities for the courtyard beautification.
