I recruit partner schools who are interested in having Cultural Kitchen as an after school program. Then, I go to the school for two hours each week for ten weeks. The first two weeks are cultural activity-based. We discuss the goals of the program and sample snacks from around the world. In the third session, I lead the class in preparation of a dish from my culture with a brief presentation at the end that includes a poster visual. This serves as an example of what is expected from students. Sessions 4 and 5 allow the students to do research on their country and prepare their presentation visuals. The last 5 class are devoted to peer teaching as students give presentations to the class. We also make a meal together with a recipe that the student brings in.
