The Problem

The main issue Adaptive Design and I are trying to combat is children and adults with special needs not receiving the proper adaptive equipment they need. Their are children that come into the office whom do not have a headrest for their wheelchair, or others whom do not have the use of their legs, and therefore we would build a scooter to you use while indoors. Some of the other children we meet have never sat at cafeteria bench with their peers while eating lunch. Therefore, we design, decorate and build an adaptive cafeteria bench seat so that they can eat and interact with their classmates. For wheelchairs users who have trouble being noticed because of their size while traveling, they have the option of having a wheelchair lamp installed.

Plan of Action

The steps that I have taken thus far to promote ADA's mission statement, is to reach out to different youth community based organizations in the Tri- State. Teach them how to build equipment using corrugated card board and other materials. Educate the parents of our commitment to our mission. As well as continuing to build, decorate, and assist in the delivery of Caring Chairs to Head Start programs and preschools. My long term goal with the help of Adaptive Design is to continue to produce Caring Chairs® and Perches for a Purpose® to the community, so that we can continue to make customized adaptive equipment for children and adults with special needs.
