The problem, is that too many of us adults do not give back to the communities in which we live in. For those who had it tough and then change, they do not come back to their communities and teach others what not to do. Instead they think they have made it out and are too good to come back. Then there are those who have never had it tough, and think they are too high class to take the time to work with those less privileged. However, those who had it made, still have something positive they can give to someone who didn't have it made. So what I have done is taken the intitiative and started a group to where kids can talk about issues and also find positive information to help them. This group is faith based and I am looking for this to grow as we get the word out there. I am looking to show this next generation that they CAN MAKE it, they CAN be what they want to be, they CAN be smart in school, they CAN CHANGE!

I am a director of a youth community center building so I see a lot of issues with kids and how much more we need to help our up and coming youth. Through my job I am not able to do all that I want to do. We have sports programs, summer programs, and some seasonal events that we have for kids. But I wanted to do something and have something where kids could talk and discuss issues. After thinking and praying I came up with the group called DA BADEST. This is an acronym which means Developing A Better Attitude During Every Situation or Trial! I have had this acronym for over a year and tried to do it through work, but it did not work. So recently there was something that happened in our community that made me realize I have to get this group going. I mentor at a Middle School and a High School so I told some kids and got the word around and put it on Myspace. I believe this will grow to be something big and I hope to even have some events for the kids in the community. If this group keeps even just ONE CHILD from wanting to committ suicide, wanting to fight another person, running away from home, being depressed, having low self-esteem, or anything, then THIS GROUP HAS DONE ITS JOB!
