Darfur Awareness Week

the problem:

Darfur Awareness week at High Point Regional High School

Movie Night- Thursday, March 13, 6:30-9:00 p.m. in the auditorium. We will show the movie Hotel Rwanda, after giving the audience information about the genocide in Darfur. The evening will include comments by our very own expert, Mrs. Jackie Sutton. Students will be able to prepare letters to politicians and sign petitions as well as donate $5 admission for refugee aid. There will also be a bake sale to raise more money for refugee aid. A raffle will be held and the prizes will be save Darfur tee shirts and magnets.

Hat Day - Friday, March 14
Students will be able to support Darfur refugee aid by paying $1 during homeroom to wear a hat on Friday

Bake sale during Lunches - Friday, March 14 - to support refugee aid.

Morning Announcements
Morning announcements during the week of March 10-14 will share information about Darfur wit the student body. Example: where is Darfur? etc.

Applebee's Fundraiser-Wednesday, March 19, 4:00 p.m. to closing
A percentage of sales from dinners this night will go to support refugee aid. Flyers will be circulated at the movie night and during the week of March 10.

Library Materials
The following DVD's and books about genocide in Darfur have been purchased for our school library. They will be available to teachers and students during the awareness week, and will be a permanent addition to our library.

Sussex-Wantage Branch of the Sussex County Library
We are coordinating our events with a display on the genocide in Darfur at the public library branch. There will be posters and brochures.

Publicity
The art departments graphic arts students are helping with posters to publicize our events. We also have sent out our movie night information to local papers.
