The Problem
The holidays can be a depressing time for some people, particularly if you are stuck in the hospital. Not that being in a hospital at any time of the year is much better, but the holidays especially are a bad time to be sick and away from home. Oftentimes, friends and family may not be available to visit, and they are left feeling alone and forgotten. Imagine a child, alone in a hospital bed, with nothing to comfort them. Now imagine a child's face when they receive a beautifully handmade gift from someone, something just for them, to cheer them up.
Plan of Action
We just started our club here at Arcadia, so we have been taking small steps at a time. First, we spread awareness about our cause. Then, we'd offer free crochet tutoring sessions around the school and getting people interested. Some people just enjoyed learning about us and what we do, and some other people joined H4H. Now that we've gotten more concrete membership, we have been making handmade gifts to collect for children in a local hospital, most likely Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). We so far have a broad collection of gifts, including stuffed animals, many types of friendship bracelets, pillows, hats, scarves, etc. We hope to have 300 bracelets and 100 other gifts to distribute.
