The Problem

DeDe Dance Studio is a burgeoning non-profit in South, Los Angeles that works to empower youth through multicultural arts and brotherhood and sisterhood clubs. The residents of the community that we serve are predominately from low-income families. Further the community as a whole is impoverished with lack of intervention programs such as DeDe Dance Studio that provides youth with the safe environment to express themselves in positive and creative ways.

Why It's Important

DeDe Dance Studio has 3 main branches: 1) Performing Arts Academy - students partake in multicultural performing arts ranging from flamenco to African. Through the exposure of the multicultural arts, field trips to other dance academies or productions and the seasonal recitals, dancers develop a greater sense of respect for their peers and appreciation for others cultures. 2) Princess Club - all girls club for females with ages 5-12. Guides women in the transition from girl to lady and helps to steer them in a more professional path. 3) Ladies First - equivalent to Princess Club but for girls with ages 13-18.

The Plan Of Action

As an organization we work tenaciously and persistently to improve the programs of our organization. We work as a team in that we build off each others' knowledge, we share and respect all ideas and we bring in all resources that we can to make our projects successful and beneficial to the kids.

How Can Others Get Involved?

Throughout the year, we are looking for talented artists who can bring expertise of dance and wisdom about the art itself to share with our kids. For more information about volunteering or becoming an instructor please email me at [contact information removed by administrator] Currently, we are in the process of recruiting young girls and boys to partake in our annual ball in May 2009. If you know any girls or boys that may be interested, please have their parents contact the email above. Lastly, we would appreciate all in-kind and monetary donations for the purpose of providing our services to more kids in our community.

Owing to the extreme poverty levels of the South Los Angeles community, several families were unable to enroll their children in our programs.
