Having been introduced to the World of music at the young age of 8, I had acquired many skills; this included having the ability of playing Classical piano as well as Lyric Song. Once I had enough maturity and understanding, I saw that many non- profit organizations such as local churches, didn't have the opportunity of hiring musicians to play and sing because they didn’t have enough revenue to compensate them. Thus, I wanted to make a change, I wanted to see people from all generations smiling and rejoicing because the passion of music was brought to their lives at the place they wanted to worship. I had the privilege of using my bilingual skills in working with many churches such as "Adonia Baptist Church", "Christ is the Only Hope Baptist Church", "First Baptist Church of Ebenezer", and "The Triumph of Christ Baptist Church". I was able to teach people from many Hispanic nationalities who were not musically equipped, and transmitted the same passion and understanding of music that I have. This included rehearsing choirs and teaching adults the appropriate ways of working together in harmonious tones. I also had the honor of creating and developing vocal ensembles at churches that didn't have a leader a leader to teach people how to sing in a professional manner. Lastly I was able to share my abilities of singing and playing the piano in the same performing groups I had rehearsed as well as participated in concerts at cities that the organizations had planned. It is an inexplicable joy when you are the one responsible to have a tone deaf person sing music in the right pitch or have a man humming or a little girl sing the songs you have sung and taught. To me this means that I've left my mark on someone, and what they have learned through me, they will also teach to different generations. Before began my project, I was often invited to sing as a guest in different churches several times a month, I maintained communication with the churches and once I began my project I offered them my services in which many said "yes". On Saturdays beginning from five in the afternoon to nine o'clock at night, I would rehearse with "Ebenezer Baptist Church". This church had a beginner’s vocal group band, and I would lead the vocals and teach them the correct posture and ways of singing. On Sundays from 10:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the afternoon, I would serve at the previously mentioned church located at Hialeah. Once their service was over I went to Westchester and served at a local church called the Triumph of Christ Baptist Church from eight in the evening to ten at night. Once this church changed location I served with them from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. After that church did not need my services anymore, I served in a church named "Christ Is the Only Hope Baptist Church", where I am currently serving from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sundays, and holding rehearsals for the vocals at Five in the evening on Fridays and Sundays. This doesn't include the random invitations from other churches, where I am invited to sing and play my instrument on special occasions One of the most important obstacles I had to overcome was distance. I had to measure my time carefully in order to arrive on time at the designated place because sometimes I went from one city to another and I was to always have in mind at which time frame there would be traffic and at which time frame there wouldn't. I was raised in the United States and this resulted in me being more fluent in English that in Spanish -my native language-. Though several of the churches I offered my services to where bilingual, their main form of communication was Spanish, with time I was able to polish my Spanish and speak it more fluently. At the beginning it was an arduous task, for me. Still, the greatest obstacle I had to overcome was my shyness. Now that I was considered a leader and had to speak to as man as 300 people and as little as 15 people, I had to remind myself that I was an authority figure and that people depended on me and looked up to me as an example to follow. The outcome of my service was that more than one church was given the opportunity to grow in their knowledge of music and to know how to provide a professional performance because it has been taught to them. Therefore, the congregations grew and keep growing because they don't offer the public mediocrity but excellence. I have taken part in teaching people leadership skills and music skills and they will pass it along to other people, hence the process will never end. This means that not only one area has been targeted but many distinct areas and thus the knowledge and passion of music will be spread through to different people, throughout different towns, to different cities. I envision my project will inspire teenagers just like me, to make a difference in their community, to make them understand that there's magic when you see a sea of smiles beaming at you because of the change you've brought to their lives. All the effort and inspiration that I have given these churches will not be in vain nor will cease because the churches that I have helped have become capable of offering a great music department because of my service there. The First Church that I had the honor of providing my services to was Ebenezer Baptist Church, it is now well praised for their vocals and over all performance and have now become strong in the music department. The same revival that I was able to make in them I anticipate to make with the Churches I'm working with now.
