The Problem
As president of my school's DFYIT (Drug Free Youth in Town) chapter, I have organized many educational workshops, club meetings, trips, and community service activities to shows kids the beautiful life outside of substance abuse. Most recently, I was selected for the State of Florida DFYIT Youth Advisory Council. At school, I created an event called "Pot Day" in which my chapter protested against substance abuse during school with creative signs like "Want a Future? - Don't use Drugs." We stood outside while wearing pots on our heads to draw attention to our protest. Furthermore, we will be traveling to New Orleans this fall to perform community service clean up work by building play grounds for children who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina and talking to them about leading a drug-free life. In June we are organized a fashion show fundraiser to raise money to those who have victims of drug abuse. DFYIT has given me the opportunity not only to lead a healthty, drug-free life, but has allowed me to inspire others in my school and throughout the southeast to do so as well.
