The Problem
The goal of Paws Giving Independence (PGI) NFP is to rescue dogs from animal shelters and place them with individuals with disabilities for free of charge. Over population in animal shelters is a huge problem. Each year thousands of animals are put to sleep because no one wants to adopt them.
We want to show the public that there are amazing animal waiting to be rescued in animal shelters all over. In addition we want to show the public the benefits of a service dog. We also place the dogs for free of charge because we do not want anyone to not receive a service dog because of a financial burden.
Plan of Action
Paws Giving Independence was just founded in Sept of 2008. We have rescued 15 dogs from animal shelters in the Central IL area. We have currently placed 3 service dogs and have 3 more that will be placed in the next few months. We plan to continue to follow our motto of "Saving a Life to Change a Life." So far the program has been financed with our own money but we are now collecting donations. The money raised allows us to place the dogs free of charge and covers the cost of the vet care for the dogs. We also are educating the public about service animals.
We hope to continue to grow our program to offer training class for the public. We also hope to start more work with therapy dogs that will go into hospitals.
