Money Raised: Over 700 gently used books were donated

See It

To promote literacy in our community, students in our school were asked to donate "gently used" children's books. The books are being donated to several agencies in our area, including Red Cross, Inter-Faith Ministries, the Wichita Children's Home, and Catholic Charities, so that children in need will have books to read. Besides helping the environment by recycling these books, students who donated were also assisting children in our community who have been affected by poverty in such a way that they do not have access to children's books away from school. Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students contributed a variety of books, from baby board books, to picture books, to chapter books. We held class competitions to see who could collect the most books. Student Council representatives collected the books from each classroom and counted them. Congratulations to Miss Stadel's 4th grade for donating the most books and winning the hot chocolate party! Our school book drive was a success because we collected over 700 books to distribute to the selected charities!
