Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a third world nation in the Caribbean Sea, because it is a third world nation the garbage is found in piles throughout the cities. Every few days the garbage men collect what they can of the piles. While we were there we experienced a tropical storm and the longer it rained even more trash flowed to the sea. When we went by the beach in the city the beach was covered in trash. Homeless people were living off of trash built up as shelters. We also had the experience to visit the small town of Don Gregorio. During the time here we helped paint a YMCA. The YMCA's in the Dominican Republic supply the education for the students because public school is rare and has poor teaching while private schooling is very expensive. The YMCA provides reasonable teaching to a specific skill to help the students get a job.
