The Problem
DSAC was started to help raise awareness of down syndrome and other disabilities in our local communities. Our goal is to help end discrimination and awkwardness between regular teens and teens who have disabilities. In other words, we want to unite all teens and show how similar we all are! Our club provides after school activites that help bond disabled teens with High School teens.
Why It's Important
Most disabled teens are often glanced over by regular teens because they are different and "weird". We hope to dissolve the definition of "normal" and help disabled individuals have friends just like any other person.
The Plan Of Action
We hope to raise enough money to make bi weekly programs that will help create unison between our community. This would mean something similar to a workshop where we would provide help disabled teens express their hobbies such as: sports, bowling, having conversations, listening to music. Activities like these will help the kids feel a closer connection to people and make new friends. We've recently have gone bowling, to the movie theaters, and much more. We plan to continue our club because we're glad we make the kids and parents happy!
