Through DOXA serve http://doxaserves.org/, seven families from the Mission area in Fremont embarked on a trip to Tijuana, Mexico. The families stayed in an Orphanage which provided a safe shelter, a wonderful kitchen, and port potties. Needless to say, limited to these basic provisions, the families had a blast! Day one of the trip, they met the family whom they were building a home for and started loading the building materials onto the back of a truck. To get to the work site, the children sat on the back of the truck while the parents walked. Each person worked together to build the Mexican family a house; there were people who lead the project, people who nailed, hammered, sawed, and even took pictures. The seven families worked together for four days to build a home for a family in need. In the end, not only did the Mexican family receive a wonderful home, but the seven families experienced a beautiful thing where one can only feel through giving.
