The Problem
Charles D. Drew Hall is seen as one of the more dismal dormitories on Howard University’s Campus. Ironically, the most “lack luster” hall continually proves to be the hall with the most character, and to its inhabitants it is seen as a “palace”. As a current resident I would like to see my home, my palace adorned as such, starting with the outward appearance. The Drew Hall courtyard is a large social gathering place for freshman campus round, due to accessibility and location. However, too many times have I heard discouraging comments about its appearance, and as much as it hurts me, I can’t help but to agree. So with that said it is my hope to change that.
I am writing in hopes of receiving support in a project that I would like to head on Drew Hall’s behalf. My vision is to revamp the courtyard in terms of its landscaping and overall cleanliness. With that said, The project would set out to accomplish three Goals:
1) Establish Funds for the reclamation of the courtyard
2) Restore the Drew Hall courtyard to its original grandeur
3) Create a fund for the new courtyard’s upkeep and further restoration/development
The project would commence as soon as possible ending in the spring of the 2007-2008 academic year.
Using the Drew Hall community as the initial resource in the implementation process, it would keep this project at the heart of whom it would affect. Subsequently, then branching out into the Howard community for additional support via additional labor forces, and resources in terms of fundraising.
In hopes of acting more as a service to rather than another financial burden to the school, I feel that extensive fundraising is extremely necessary. This project could be funded through different ventures:
- Sponsoring Social events
- Candy Sales
- Donations
- A Poetry night with funds being donated to the cause
- Sponsorship
- Grants
All I believe are pliable ways to make this project work.
I know that I would be fully committed to the cause, and am that this would be something great for the place that we call home.
